Hello! I have just turned 17, and I am trained in Dance (Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, etc.) I have an average body... and because I dance, my legs are pretty nice. But the rest of my body? is not so nice... I am a ballerina wanting to become a body builder :) For anyone who knows me that sounds pretty crazy! But I am a very dedicated person. I am about 5'7" and 135 lbs. (during the dancing year I am at about 120 lbs.) I want to stop looking "skinny", and I actually want to start building some muscle! Any tips from you guys? Thanks a bunch! Amanda xoxo

May I also add that I CAN'T go to a gym (has to do with my parents), and unfortunately I do not have any gym equipment at my home. Basically, I am just looking for tips to start off in my home (and outside if you include running). Thanks! Amanda xoxo

It would be really really hard to build muscle without any gym equipment. The body exercises will give you strength but that`s not what you`re looking for. I`d say, start bying pairs of dumbbells that you feel comfortable with.

I'm glad you have some knowledge on the typical dancer body. I am tall and somewhat lean. If you don't mine helping me out, my first concerns are the fat around my waist, hips, and butt. That has got to go! Also, I would like to increase the muscle in my thighs, of course they are skinny but lean. Maybe going for the stereotypical gymnast thighs if you know what I mean. Also, my arms need a lot of help. As a dancer, the fitness of it is focused on the abs and lower. Not much if not at all upper body strength. What do you recommend for this to see quick but small results? Thanks so much! Amanda xoxo

Well the diet will help with the extra fat placing and also the running and dancing, but for the muscle you need for the shape and to help with efficiency in fat burning I suggest some plyometry which is great for the gymnast quad such as tuck and squat jumps. Body weight work will get you upper body shaping such as pullups, chins up done with spot or horizontally, pushups, tricep dips, chest dips, atg squat with any thing you can hold with weight, even if you get water bottles, then bigger ones as you get stronger than you can upgrade to gas cans with water for weight for walking lunges and squats. Ham rippers are great and if you get a body ball, super cheap, you can do a ton more for toning. Linda
