Balance - Monday, November 02, 2009 4:52 PM ( #1 )
Ok so i'm pretty strong for my age and weight i guess, im 17, 5'11, bench 210+, squat 320+, power clean 215+, and deadlift 385, and 155+- lbs
But despite my current achievements i have almost NO BALANCE AT ALL
A little freshmen maybe 130lbs can come up and push me just joking around and ill nearly fall over.
I was wondering if there was any kind of exercise or something i could do to improve my balance considering i also play football is a linebacker.
Thanks in advance.

Well we do balance in my yoga class.
I used to stink at it....and still do!  I've made a little progress.

So yoga would be my 2c.  Good luck!

Most Martial Arts arts will address balance.. but that is a time commitment that would conflict with football..

Ballet is supposed to be good for balance and football, no?
You'd have your pick of chicks in ballet!  ;)  Yoga too, for that matter.

do basic things like standing on one foot, holding poses that require balance.

Run balance drills for football, they have a lot of these for running backs.

You can also do a lot of exercises on or involving swiss balls, to help progress your stabalizers and work on balancing your body.

One I think will really help you is grab a half swiss ball with the flat hard bottom (not sure the exact name) and do body weight squats, or squats with light weight on them.

Bench on swiss ball
Push ups on swiss ball

get creative im sure theres a lot of things you can do.

I've seen a guy fall while benching on a swiss ball, so i really must question the safety behind that.

well, obviously your going to want to start much lighter then doing it on a bench. The point is to focus on balance and stabalizing yourself.
