Bacon is a wonderful thing - Wednesday, June 03, 2009 8:14 AM ( #1 )
All along I thought bacon was really bad for you (like that ever stopped me from eating it), but after looking at the nutrition facts, it's actually pretty damn good for ya.

2 strips of bacon has 278 calories, 20 g fat (only 1.5 g saturated), 0 g carbs, and 20 g protien.

If fat and protien is the way to go.....well, it would seem that bacon would be a damn good food to be eating.

Who would have thought that eating a pig's a** could be so damn good for you?

I would eat turkey bacon Jane, but that wouldn't satisfy my cravings for pig's a**es.

What, then a Turkey's booty?  Hmmm....I guess as long as it's a female, I'd still be straight then right?

What kind of super bacon are you eating that has 20g of protein in 2 strips?  Most Ive had are ~5g for 2 strips.

Regardless, I cannot deny its greatness

I dunno.  I just looked up "bacon nutrition facts" on Google.

Oh, and don't talk s*** about Taco Bell Jane.  I'll have to hurt you.

And ive never seen bacon with that kind of fat/protein ratio.

I just googled it, so maybe the nutrition facts were wrong.  I was just really suprised to see 20 g protien, and 20 g fat (only 1.5 saturated).

I'll have to check the actual label on the bacon in my fridge though.  It's probably like 2 g protein, 36 g saturated fat, lol.

For 2 or 3 strips of bacon the average is around 7 g of protein.

  20 g protien.

Check again. No way there is 20 grams of protein in two strips of bacon.

I've never seen more than 2-4g of protein in a single piece of bacon. Theres no way theres 20g of protein in 2 pieces, unless those pieces are huge lol.

I just checked the pack in my fridge today and it said for 2 slices:

80 calories, 7 g fat, 0 g carbs, 3 g protien.  I don't know where that crap from the google search came from.

Anyway, I ate my normal pre-workout meal which is a 3-egg omellete and cheese, but I added 3 strips of bacon.....It tasted amazing, but I felt like I was about to puke for the next 2 hours while I was at the gym.   I guess my body is not used to it or something.  I guess I'm gonna have to just go back to keeping bacon as drunk munchie food rather then part of my pre-workout meal.

Yep, that sounds about right... but you might also want to watch the sodium content. In those 3 pieces of bacon, its probably 500+mg of sodium. But, I do agree.... bacon is yummy, I prefer portuguese sausage though lol.

Bacon is like any other cut of meat... you can get more expensive choice cuts with less fat more meat, or the reverse... therefor the protein content will vary,  dependent on the quality of the product you buy. Sodium will always be high though.

You don't have to tell me... I make this German dish (old family recipe) once a year, so I can remember how to do it. It is nothing but white flour yeast dumplings that are steamed. Then you pour bacon fat over top and serve with a a puddle of canned cherries... dumplings all shinny, salty, smokey and savory, then you cut into them and the insides soak up all the cherry juice, so it is just a little bit sweet.  Little bits of bacon, and cherries, hanging out together.... No words exist in any language  to describe how absolutely F'in delicious that is...

I think I might like chocolate covered bacon, although it does sound pretty nasty.

why don't you just marinate it with protein powder? :p

though, i wouldn't trust the taste after it, and the amount of sodium bacon contains....
