Back Hurts - Monday, December 11, 2006 1:15 PM
I just lifted a few weights and it's been about a week or less and my lower back is starting to hurt. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Start off by giving us some information...

What exercises were/have you been doing?
With how much weight?
How long have you been into weight training?
What are your stats (height, weight, age etc.)

That way we can start to get an idea of what the problem may be.

At a rough guess, I would say perhaps you have been doing squats and the lower back can be effected if not properly performed. Or you are using to heavier weight on some other exercise and your lower back is compensating and causing you injury.

But they are some rough guesses, come back with some info...

The exercises I was doing (I belive) were:
1. Bicep Curls (I think it was 3 sets of 10 with 20 pounds)
2. Squats (3 sets of 10 with 20 pounds)
3. Pushups (Not quite sure how many, maybe 20-25?)
I havn't been into weight training that long, just at school and occasionally at home when I feel like it.

Height: 5 feet 11 inches
Weight: Last time I checked it was 150-155
Age: 14

If you need any more info just ask. What I basicly want to know is will this go away? Thanks to anyone that can help.

ok, yep it sounds pretty normal.

Is it a muscle soreness pain, or more of a 'bad' pain? Does that make sense. Is it restricting you moving or performing other exercises?

How long has the pain been there? I would say it may be from bad form on the squats, if you search around, there are lots pages on proper form for squats and it will save your back.

It could be because of wrong posture. You should try to get someone to check your form. I don't think you should be getting back pain from the exercises.

Give it like a week rest, doing some stretching exercises (check websites for back exercises), and see what happens from then on.

sounds like it came from the squats. I have no idea if its because you used improper form or not, but it would be wise to read about it.

However it may just be because your body is'nt used to lifting wieghts and its just sore. Usually when people do squats for the first time they get very very sore afterwards. try stretching your lower back, and stretch your hamstrings and back by bending over keeping your legs straight and reaching down as far as you can with your hands.

Try stretching and see if that doesnt help.
