New to the forum, but I really appreciate all the great info on here.

I'm trying to put on a little bit of mass and I've been drinking ON whey shakes both pre and post-workout.  Given that each shake has more than 5 grams of BCAAs per  serving, is there any reason to take additional BCAA supplements?  Is more (or different) necessarily better or am I getting what I need?

I dont think it has 5 grams Im not sure it may be 5 mgs but a good amount of  BCAAs wont hurt you so I dont see no harm in taking a BCAA i do and my shakes have alot of BCAAs in them for a SHAKE that is but not enough for a daily need

According to the label you're looking at 5.5g in each shake: Leucine - 2531mg, Isoleucine- 1654mg, Valine- 1422mg.  And it has an overall amino acid profile that isn't very different from what you'd find in a lot of the AA supplements out there.  If I added another amino acid supplement into the mix I'd obviously be getting even more and maybe (maybe?) they'd be absorbed into the bloodstream more quickly, but my hunch is that beyond a certain point additional BCAA supplementation doesn't do all that much for you.

Bottom line question: how much is enough in terms of amino acids?  The supplement companies have an interest in getting us to take as much as we can afford, but how much is really helpful when it comes to preventing muscle breakdown and improving performance and recovery?

i read somewhere that BCAAs in protein drinks don't get properly abosorbed by the body so you are not getting as much of the BCAAs as there is on the label.  i would go ahead and add in more, i dont think its really going to hurt anything by adding more in
