BCAA's, What they do... and what are some suggested buys? - Friday, June 19, 2009 10:46 AM ( #1 )
I've been hearing a lot of people talk about the taking BCAA's on the forum. Aren't they amino acids? Is it like the benifit of taking vitamins? What kind should i look into? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Go onto Youtube, type in Milos Sarcev Training Tips. It's a 5 part series explaining the true importance of BCAA's and proteins.

In a nutshell, BCAAs are the building blocks of proteins and are the essential key(hence EAA) to muscle building.

In short, you need them and you really can't get enough of them, therefore they are totally worth it.

Cheap Version: Prosource.net, Mega BCAA Powder or ON BCAA.
Current Supplements: Multi, Whey, Caffeine, BCAA, Vitamin C, Calcium
Current Cycle: Strength

pill form is very expensive and a pain to do. Personally, I prefer them in powder form, and some will say that their taste is vile(half true) and that they don't dissolve in water(half true.)

Get a water bottle of choice, and a funnel that can fit the hole. Funnel in the BCAA powder, and shake up a few times, dont drink it. Go to the gym, and do cardio or something for 15-60 minutes all the while shaking up the bottle every so often. After time, the BCAAs will dissolve and you won't notice them. They're not sugar, they're amino acids in powder form so they wont dissolve in seconds.

After it's dissolved, shake up a little more, and drink it during workout. Golden.

Optimum Nutrition makes 2222 if im not mistaken, and they make a powder form of BCAA which is worth the price. I'd say if you want to stick with brands, get the powdered form.

Nice videos, I wish I'd seen those about 6 months ago.  I was a little disappointed he didn't say anything about how much to take.  I'm sure it varies from person to person, but ultimately, I guess it just really wasn't something he needed to talk about in order to push his product.  Still, informative vids.

That's exactly what I said, except it was more, "I wish I had seen this 3 years ago."

If you are trying to gain mass, I don't see BCAA's helping that much.  You should already be eating tons of protein and enough overall calories to put you in a surplus.  There are studies that show the BCAA's (especially leucine) are a trigger for muscle growth, but I don't think their cost justifies their use when you're already eating so much.

If you are dieting, however, they can probably help a lot to prevent muscle loss.  There are a drink-mix BCAA products (Extend is one) that taste very good.  You could drink these throughout the day in place of just water and probably have a positive effect.  Cost is still a big issue, though.
