My Intro:

I have listened to Daniel Gastelu's (Ph.D., trainer, researcher, author) Seminar series on Developing Awesome Muscles and I believe there is a good deal of information of value in there for bodybuilders, powerlifters, physique athletes and even those looking to just get ripped.

These are free to stream or download and packed with information.  They range in time from as little as 15 minutes to as much as an hour...on average being 30 minutes.  (I will show you how to cut 33% of the time off if your time is precious.)  There are no ads and no fluff.

I want to know if anyone would be interested in listening to the segments Daniel has presented, one at a time and discussing them...I will answer any questions anyone has about the content.  I am corresponding and will be talking with Daniel and if there is anything anyone wants to know more about, I am sure I can get him to cover it.

There are 22 topics from supplementation and nutrition for fat loss and muscle gains to some specific methods and techniques for maximal performance and development.

I will highlight the key points as I see them and try to clarify anything that I feel is presented in a complicated fashion.

Everyone else is free to do the same as well as discuss the points, ask questions, debate, and together work out practical scenarios for applying these things to our training to get the most of the cutting edge science that is presented.

P.S.  Daniel builds on ideas as he goes through the series and I feel that listening in order is very helpful in getting some of the insights he sharing.

Here is the Tenth audio in the series.

July 2006
61 minutes

Dan discusses the following items this week:
  • Introduction to genetics.
  • Glucosamine, Chondroitin Sulfate, MSM, sulfate/sulfur, and top sulfate/sulphur foods.
  • Methionine, cysteine, glutathione, and phosphoadenosine phosphosulfate (PAPS).
  • Genes, chromosomes, genome, genotype, phenotype, and polymorphisms.
  • Myogenic and metabolic gene expression from different bouts of exercise; resistance exercise or running exercise.
  • Question: How long is gene expression stimulated for muscle growth and energy substrate utilization?

If you want to talk about anything you hear...post a comment in this tread!
Remember this is a moderated forum so comments may not immediately appear.

There are 22 topics in this series and I will put the links to them in here later...

He has not posted a new one for a over year.

I think he has more recorded.  It takes time to edit them.

ah ok, hopefully he will post them up sometime soon. I really like how its not the same basic principles over and over that gets so redundant and he instead goes into the science of it all, really explaining how and why the things work.

whats ur opinion on the high rep warm up's he reccomends to work the slow twitch muscle fibers?

and also the whole "more oxidative weightlifting training" when cutting instead of loads of cardio. i'd much rather workout more than do cardio anyday.

Its like what you do when you jog to warm up..except using different muscle groups....than just legs.

Same thing really...

oh really? i would have figured doing the 20ish rep range would at least work your muscles a little bit more than a cardio warm up and would maybe create some hypertrophy

by the way this week (according to my calipers) i lost 1.46lb. of fat and gained .71lb. of LBM so it seems like its working so far. but since i lost weight i will add 250 calories
"--If you gain muscle and lose fat but gain no weight (or lose weight), add 250 calories"

Even HIIT will cause hypertrophy.

When you train with high rep you work the oxidative and oxidative glycolytic muscle and it can adn usually does hypertrophy.
The reason he usually recommends including work for type I and Type II muscle is that you want to take advantage of causing hypertrophy in both fractions....as well as getting the benefit of more mitochondria in the type I muscle, etc.

-1.4
+0.7
is a net loss of 0.7.

You can add calories or you can wait a week and see how things change to be conservative.
Lots of interesting things are likely to happen as your chemistry changes.

I want to tel you the point I wanted to make a month ago.
The body is most responsive when you start at baseline.
If you want to experiment with interesting diets, new supplement regimens, etc...
First, return to baseline...which you may be at now.
Wait until your body is already responding optimally.
Then try the new thing.
the body becomes resistant to "starvation," etc, after a period as you have experienced, but a brief dip into it can be invigorating for your program from time to time, followed by a return to baseline to reset the system to opimal.

well you could have told me that a month agoSmile, haha jkSmile that makes a lot of sense though, i've heard of the same concepts before but i guess i wasn't taking everything into consideration and wanted to try something new.

as for the raising calories i was definately planning on it and made the diet already with a 250-260 calorie raise (same ratio's). Especially since its not like i just stayed the same weight on a normal week, i actually lost about 3/4lb. and  that was with the reintroduction of all the carbs again (so prob. a significant amount of the LBM was water). so i was thinking it would make the most sense to add 250, unless u think it would be more beneficial to wait a week, but like i said i can't understand why that would be necessary with such a drop in weight even with more carbs.
