Atkin's Diet & Bodybuilding

I've heard alot about this diet, and for a body builder who wants to pack on lean muscle, it just doesnt make any sense to me at all. Surely, if carbs are needed for energy to allow protein to be used to build muscle, then reducing carbs would mean that you lose fat, but build no muscle? I can understand if someone wants to simply lose fat, the the atkins could be a good idea, but to lose body and build definition and muscle, it sounds like nonsense!! Could someone please let me know if Im wrong. Thanks

I can attest to the fact that Atkins and any other carb-cutting diet sucks for gaining muscle. I never did Atkins but I was on a low carb diet for about 6 months and my strength, size, and enthusiasm all went south. I also have a friend that went full-on Atkins, he claimed to have gained some strength but may or may not have been taking steroids at the time and I think he later lost everything he gained. That being said, low-carb is great for losing fat but I wouldn't reccomend cutting all carbs, your workouts will go to crap quickly.

Right. Atkins is not the way to go for gaining mass. There is another version called CKD- Cyclinal Keto Diet. It follows Atkins rules, with the exception of weekedns being your refeed. Both dyas you drop the fat and take in massive amounts of carbs on both days according to your BF%. It sounds like adream, but fat free carbs are limited...rice, cereal, potatoes ect. I tried this for a while and got mediocre results. It was cool to look forward to cereal and such on the weekends. Carbing up enables your glycogen to be restored. If you ar einterested, I can see if I have the write up on it.
