Arm Wrestling - Thursday, September 22, 2005 2:39 PM ( #1 )
So i need to know what exercises to do, to improve my strenght in arm wrestling, i know alot of people think its the biceps....NO....my biceps twice as big than the guys that i wrestled, and he put me down in 10 seconds, its deffinetly not biceps, maybe only a little portion of it.

basecly i want to know what muscle to train, and what exercises to do.

thx

flexor, extensor strengthening and some isometrics.
rope winding with bar, wrist ROM.
you need to be able to hold against push for long periods so practice this against immovable objects for time stints working up to the avg time of a arm wrestle.

You are stabilizing you arm in place with your shoulders and back...you will squeeze you back and shoulder quite hard in order to win...this is messing up things to me...
You are only 16...power still means a lot to you...you'll see what I mean later bro !

I agree with NIC, however Italianangel has the plan, its all forearm/wrist, a lil delt, and then the big pipes are for intimidation... my friend trains specifically for this "Sport" never been beaten, even by 300 lb plus people or people who can curl more than he

The size of your muscle is only weakly correlated to the strength of your muscle. I know guys 50lbs lighter than me who can put up comparable numbers.

You can get strong without getting big.

Strength DOES NOT equal mass.

Look at gymnasts at the olympics, how strong they are, or bruce lee.
To train or not to train; to train is the answer - because if you aim for nothing, you'll hit it everytime.

Deadlift and military press will probably give you the strength you need.
Squat 385, Bench 235, Deadlift 450 @ 181.

I agree bro, my biceps are huge and guess what, yeah, I was beaten by someone who was a BIT smaller than I.  I wasn't mad or anything, but I for sure know that it's not all about the biceps.  I see it in the Tricep region as well as the side shoulder pads.  Biceps are too in the muscle group to arm wrestle but not as much as you think.  Also, the OUTER chest muscle area if you notice does take some effect or degree on it.  But yeah, I don't like to arm wrestle, I perfer a flat out wrestle to the floor pin-em down match .  BUT THE BIG THING IS ITS NOT THE MASS ITS THE STRENGTH!  There could be guys bigger than me, but there is NO way anyone can visually say they are stronger than me.  THAT'S a fact and same goes out to everyone.  Strength and Mass are two different things.

Armwrestling is all about your FOREARMS, plus you need to have a technique, get someone that knows how to armwrestle teach you because technique is really important, knowing how to use every single one of your muscles.

to answer your question on which exercises, get a curl bar, and hold it your palms facing DOWN, and curl it just like regular curling, it works the part of your forearms used in armwrestling

its deffinetly forearm and sholder that takes most pressure on.

Really its all in the wrist. it's technic unless the dude is like really small. hell go to chucky cheese and practice with the robot arm wrestling machine lol. nah its in the wrist. I got a coworker he'll see someone say hey you got some guns wanna arm wrestle and he'll beat them. I'm much stronger than him and he can still beat me. I know cause said it to me and his friend said he always does that. He never works out. he's just good at it. The way he beat me is he is quick and uses the wrist. You can use all your body weight as leverage. it's all in who gets the upper hand when they say GO!

Arm wrestling is all techniqe, some strength ah maybe, I've seen guys that dont lift at all slam a guy with huge biceps. have had friends that could just do it. As for a exercise to improve my guess would not be lifting weights but just get a big heavy ROCK and throw it like them olympians (dont throw it like a baseball) cant think of what the competion is called.

il tell you a funny story.  one day in my biology class we were all arm wrestleing and no one could beat me. (im the strongest in the class) well the next day this kid wanted a rematch. (a good 25 pounds less than me) well he did some funny stuff like wiggleing his wrist and almost beat me.  but then he wanted another rematch so i said ok and when someone said go he threw his whole body to the ground and with all his weight and him useing his muscles wrist bent forward he messed up my arm for several days.  don't arm wrestle instead take it to the gym!!!! arm wrestleing=pain

Doesn't arm wrestling sometimes have to do with genes. My dad and Uncle always arm wrestle and my dad has lifted since he was my age and my uncle never has...but my uncle is just naturally strong.....and whoops my dad everytime.
