Anyone tried MRI HSP Active (Heat Shock Proteins) - Friday, June 19, 2009 4:45 PM ( #1 )
The guy at GNC sold me a book for a buck on MRI's HSP Active.  The book was interesting and well worth the buck for the info I leaned about training, nutrition, anabolism, hypertrophy, hyperplasia, etc.

I decided I'd give it a try for a month.  It's been 5 days since my first dose.  I've taken 4 doses so far.  Can't really tell any difference so far except maybe a little extra armpit perspiration.

Anyone else tried this stuff?  Results?
Supposed to be a miracle supplement for growing muscle fiber.
If I don't notice anything more than I think I would have gained w/o it, I'll give up on it when I finish the box.

GNC workers are just salesman, everytime I go in there they tell me to buy certain stuff, most of the stuff completely unnecessary.

I have a friend that refuses to listen to my advice, so he went to GNC and bought some lotion that he claims repairs muscle tissue immediately and he rubs it on like an idiot pre-workout everyday, I get a good kick out of him because all I take are protein shakes and whole foods and can rep his squat max on bench and I workout with just as much as on overhead press as he does squats. It's pitiful.

My GNC guy is really cool.  He didn't pressure me into buying it.  I read the book and said to myself that I'd know whether it was worthless or worthwhile to me.  So far, nothing.  $40 for a month.  Worst I can lose.

The guy gave me a $40 bucket of gainer for free because he bought it awhile ago and then decided he wanted to diet instead of gain.  I even brought in a bottle of creatine/punch mix than I had finished to have him see whether it was the right thing to be taking.  He said it looked great for the $ and that I should keep buying it at Walmart.  So I guess it depends on the guy.

His 1RM is probably about 185 or so.. not much at all, I doubt he could even squat 185 to be honest..

He's one of those leg press guys, he claims he can leg press like 1500lbs but that's bull****. He says the bar on his back aggravates his back, yeah, 275lbs feels GOOD on my back, right? It's about not being a p****.

He refuses to listen to anyone, he's one of those guys that knows everything- He hires personal trainers and stuff knowing in a couple months I'll be one and have volunteered a hundred times to help him with a program, diet and the whole nine yards for free- Even come down here and lift with me instead of paying a gym membership- But he insists on being ignorant.

I like the feeling of having weight on my back, it lets me know my core is working extra hard to stabilize my body.

When he does do squats- It's half squat, not the conventional ass to grass squats. You should always go as low as possible and drive up using your hips, he pushes up from his feet and it puts a lot of pressure on his knees, your posterior chain really needs to be strong before you can squat big numbers, just having strong quads won't do it.

I believe leg presses have their place, but they're by far an accessory movement- They should never replace back squats, squats produce mass pretty much in every muscle group it overloads which is 67% of your total muscles.

Bodybuilders tend to avoid squatting and compound movements, simply because they are very strong and going heavy on compound movements would ultimately effect their CNS and shorten their workouts, so they isolate most of their muscle groups wither high repetition workouts.

I believe training is something that should be kept simple- Not timing yourself between sets, counting the noodles in your spaghetti and taking anabolic steroids- I believe you should stick with your compound movements until you can no longer apply weight to them on a monthly basis and just eat like you're an Ethiopian at a chocolate factory, just make sure your chocolate is chicken, brown rice, veggies,  healthy fats and protein shakes.

I like a lot of isolation movements- Barbell curls, triceps extensions, leg extensions, hamstring curls, etc... they all have their place but those are the only ones that really help me personally in general, I feel that some movements- Like squats, deadlifts and bench presses cannot be replaced and just do too much for your body and not just on a stage, outside of the gym where the motions of the human body are educated through resistance training.
