what i did 8 years ago before going to basic for army all i did was run, push-ups and situps and was fine.  i wouldnt put on a lot of mass before you go because your just going to lose it where you are always doing cardio plus only eating 3 meals a day.  most people lose weight at basic.

thats what i would do anyways.  7 months is long ways away so going and getting your lift on wouldnt hurt anything =D

...oh ya, you should look into cross-fit training.  that would help out muscle endurance a lot.

i dont know man, that could almost be considered a cardio session, so if you did it 3 times a week it would whip you into shape

If you are going to need to do pull-ups at anytime I have a great workout.  I used to suck at pull-ups when I was going into the Marines, and I started doing this workout, and went from being able to do 7 or 8 to 17 or 18.  All you have to do is:

Do one pull-up, drop and do 10 push-ups
Jump up and do 2 pull-ups, drop and do 10 push-ups
Jump up and do 3 pull-ups, drop and do 10 push-ups

Do this all the way to 10 pulls and then go back down....9; 10 push ups, 8; 10 push-ups

This is a brutal workout...I usually did it at the end of my weight training workouts so that I was already worn out.  It definitely works, and right now I can do about 20 pulls with a 45 pound plate around my waist.
