Another Questions - Eating and Runnning - Wednesday, August 16, 2006 8:45 AM
I actually just thought of another question for you guys.  Ok you know how you should run either after lifting or first thing in the morning in order to cut so that your body is not burning glycogen but it is burning fat?  Well what if your don't eat for say 5 hours before your run would it have the same effect?  The problem is I hate running after lifting and I couldn't run in the morning.  so I am just wondering if I don't eat for a while before my run will it have the same effect?  Or are there any alternatives?  Thank you.
Motivation gets you started. Determination keeps you going. Anger fuels you and never lets you stop.

To be the best, you must train for the worst.

I've never heard that running after working out burns muscle. I've actually been told if it's a choice between doin cardio before or after a workout, to do it AFTER, b/c by then your glycogen stores have been depleted so you'll burn more fat than if you ran before your workout. Also, this allows your body to have maximum energy for lifting.  In an ideal world, it's better to split up your running from your workouts. Try to have them on separate days if you can. And you said you can't run in the morning, why is that? If it's because you're too tired just suck it up and do it... it'll give you more energy for the rest of the day & it's by far your best bet :)

ORIGINAL: builtdarntough150

actually, running after lifting burns off the muscle you just worked for, according to max ot you're not suppose to run on the days you work out, or if you do you need to wait 9 - 12 hours after lifting so that it is fat your burning not muscle, if you want to build muscle then you need to have alot of calorie intake, especially if you are going to jog, you need to keep alot of calories for muscle in your body, its best to run on the days you dont lift, of 9 - 12 hours after lifting..

that's exactly how i always felt
so i would always consider night I sprint as a full work out
especially since it gets me much more sore than being at da gym
