Advice for a beginner - Wednesday, June 18, 2008 3:00 PM
I'm 17, 6'0, 185 pounds, 36 inch waist

I'm relatively strong in comparison with my peers, but i lack tone. So i don't really look particularly strong

I'm not sure what kind of supplements would work best for my situation, as all i really want is a 6-pack and some arms.

Any sort of advice would be great, as i really have no clue what to look in to

ohhh ok, 6-pack and arms, well, regarding the 6-pack that is completely controlled by your diet, and % of bodyfat, so clean your diet up and you will eventually get some visible abs.  As for the arms, i dont suggest just training your arms it'll get you nowhere not to mention you will look disproportional.  I suggest you start off with a simple 3 day split (chest/tri's, back/bis, and legs)  You will gain the most muscle at yuor stage doing heavy compounds such as squats, deadlifts, bench/military presses.  DO THOSE FIRST forget the arm curls ect get the basics down.

you should be working out your whole body not just pin point one specific part of your body, the muscle will get too tired if you try to work your arms out 3-5 days a week

I guess i shouldn't have just said arms and abs, i meant upper body
at this point i can bench press 195 max

i'm not sure if you guys would laugh or nod your head at that, i'm just a lazy kid who's looking for the easy road through drugs

while it's good that you can benchpress your body weight, you should set a new goal of trying to bp it for reps.

maybe try an ATG squat with your own body weight... and even deadlift with your own body weight.

the point i'm trying to make is that there is MUCH more to being strong than just being able to benchpress your own body weight once.

sorry bro.. there is no magic pill.  it's gonna take some hard work, dedication, and a clean diet.. and also, you're going to have to take the word "lazy" out of your vocabulary.

Pumping the iron, moving the lead.  I hope all the attention I get doesn't go to my head.

I would think the first thing you need to do is work off the laziness, being dedicated is one of the most important things

no offense to the OP, but i HATE it when i see a guy come into the gym and do the SAME THING every single day.  It gets to the point where you can say "okay, he's going to do curls with this, then he'll move to bench and do this much, followed by arms again."

it makes me sick because he gets nowhere.

the best way i can explain it to you is like this, your body is like a factory.  you have the manufacturing department where they make the product, you have the packaging department, you have the testing department, and you have the shipping department.

if only a few of these departments work, then the factory fails, and looks bad.

your body needs each body part in order to work.  your biceps are nothing without your triceps.  it's just like that.  you have to work out each part of your body, or it's worthless

but boomer... you can do the same routine over and over and still get GREAT results.   i'm sure people looked at me everyday and knew exactly what i was going to do when i was doing HST.   it's the same lifts, just different reps/weight.

anyways.. i know you weren't exactly meaning that with your post.  agree completely that each body part needs eachother in order to work to it's fullest potential

i was warning against the part where he said "i mostly want some arms and abs", or something like that.

alot of times, guys my age will come up to me and ask me how to get big arms.  i'll show them some exercises.......and everytime they come into the gym, that's all they do.

i was warning him from doing that, because it'll be depressing when that's all he can do.

i wasn't meaning the "same routine is bad" thing, i was just saying when you only do certain body parts, all the time, then it's wrong.

you're right though, i do the same routine weekly, just bringing forth caution against only training certain areas
