I'm pretty pissed off that the only lifting shoes I can find in the uk are adidas ironworks or adiStar. Are they really necesarry?. I begrudge spending £120.00 on a pair of shoes, or any item of clothing for that matter. Do they really make a difference? Are there any other alternatives.

They make a lot of difference, and you can get these for 70$ http://www.vsathletics.com/product.php?xProd=1301&xSec=1

ORIGINAL: David1991 u dont need lifting shoes Yes you do. They are the only thing you need to own for weight training. why would they make a difference? Lifting shoes form a stable position because they are built on a non-compressible wedge of wood and are essential for all squats and pulls from the floor. Squatting with shoes that are designed to absorb the shock while runnig is equivalent to squatting on your bed. Any shoe with a compressable heel will not be a stable platform for any barbell movement with a ground reaction component, since the first part of the force applied to the ground is absorbed in the shoe. The worst thing is that they absorb an unpredictable amount of the force in an unpredictable direction, making each rep a whole new experience. All you need is one set of heavy squats to convince a person how useful weightlifting shoes are.

I lift naked... that's just how I roll. Just kidding but really... lifting shoes are a little excessive in my opinion. Socks work great.

just watch your form and make sure you're lifing properly. But the adidas lifting shoes - nice, wish i could find some locally. I dont like to order over the net for shoes. My street pumas work nicely for me though.
