I'm pretty pissed off that the only lifting shoes I can find in the uk are adidas ironworks or adiStar. Are they really necesarry?. I begrudge spending £120.00 on a pair of shoes, or any item of clothing for that matter. Do they really make a difference? Are there any other alternatives.

Well I did have a pretty interesting life so far.....

- I was born
- I went to school and didn't really do anything cool
- I learned to play guitar at age 11
- I joined a bodybuilding forum at age 25
- Now I have a desk job where I sit and type stuff on this bodybuilding forum, and I wait to go home so I can play my guitar and lift weights.
- Sometimes there's some naked chicks along the way too.

They make a lot of difference, and you can get these for 70$

Lifting shoes form a stable position because they are built on a non-compressible wedge of wood and are essential for all squats and pulls from the floor.

Squatting with shoes that are designed to absorb the shock while runnig is equivalent to squatting on your bed.

Any shoe with a compressable heel will not be a stable platform for any barbell movement with a ground reaction component, since the first part of the force applied to the ground is absorbed in the shoe. The worst thing is that they absorb an unpredictable amount of the force in an unpredictable direction, making each rep a whole new experience.

All you need is one set of heavy squats to convince a person how useful weightlifting shoes are.

Lift in socks.

I wear these.

If you don't want to spend the $$$ on real lifting shoes go without or think the flatter the better. Shoes with "heels" like shox and most other sneakers out now are terrible for lifting...or running...or anything else active for that matter...

I lift naked... that's just how I roll. Just kidding but really... lifting shoes are a little excessive in my opinion. Socks work great.

just watch your form and make sure you're lifing properly.

But the adidas lifting shoes - nice, wish i could find some locally.  I dont like to order over the net for shoes.

My street pumas work nicely for me though.
