Add 2" to your chest in one day? - Tuesday, October 26, 2004 9:37 PM ( #1 )
Check this out guys. Makes a lot of sense but seems very risky. The excersizes listed are organized so that fatigue doesn't stop you from finishing your motions. This is a 5 hour program from Muscle and Fitness magazine.

These are all done with dumbells. Time refers to the part of each hour the excersizes are erformed. Ex: 00 could be 2pm. 20 would be 220pm

00
Flat Bench Flye 3x10
Bent over lateral rise 3x10
20
Flat bench flye2x12
Bent over lateral raise 2x12
40
Flat benche flye 1x6
bent over lateral raise 1x6

00
Flat bench flye
Bent over lateral raise 3x10 (from now on reps and sets count for all excersizes during the 20 minute period)

20
Flat bench press
bent over row 2x12

40
Incline Press
One arm row 1x6

00
Flat bench press
bent over row 3x10

20
Incline press
one arm row 2x12

40
flat bench flye
bent over lateral raise1x6

00
Flat bench
bent over row 3x10

20incline
one arm row 2x12

40
flat bench flye
bent over lateral raise 1x6

00
Flat bench press
bent over row 3x10

20
Incline press
one arm row 2x12

40
Flat bench flye
bent over lateral raise
1x6

Each hour you must consume one Mega MRP meal-replacement drink, 1 serving creadrive, 1 serving distance, and one pro crunch bar

The goal is to get aminos for tissue repair, carbs for maintaining energy and fluids for hydration. Similar products will be fine. They key is to eat early, often and fuel the burning process.

I wanna try this. What do you guys think?

Sounds like an insane workout , at the end of the article did it say whether or not you will live through it, LOL . If you're up to it I suppose anything is worth a try but I personally can't see how your muscles have time for recovery in this 5 hour period if you are not really breaking, it take a few days for the muscles to rest and repair.

I think 5 hours is way to long to train 1 muscle and you might find that you start to fail earlier in sets as the program goes on and the weights you push get lighter. I feel it is better to get a good solid 45min workout and really break down the muscle with good clean heavy sets. It’s good to try new things but that sounds a bit to intense for me.

Sounds like crazy talk to me- Of course, I've never tried anything like it before, but I seriously doubt it's worth it.

Yea it works but you'll need longer than a couple days to rest. M&F also has a program for adding 1" to your arm in one day. The same principle except 9 hours of workout. It just about works out to training your arms like every 20 minutes with supersets. They said that they still kept 3/4 of the size 1-2 months later. So it's worth looking into. I know I don't have 9 hours to hang out in a gym. They designed it so you can do it at home but I don't have weights at home. I don't remember what issues it was in but it was a few months ago.

Yeah they kept referring to the science behind the arm project in this chest article. You'll need a week of no working out to recover but even then 2-3 weeks later your chest will still be sore but they encourage you to start back up with your regular chest program

1. Who has the time to be in there 5 hours.
2. Who has the recovery time for a workout like this? (Apparently FLEX athletes)

Working out is about stimulating muscle growth. Not kicking the crap out of your nervous system so that it takes 3 weeks to heal.

2 inches on the chest? Maybe from the extensive muscle damage. Anything that makes you sore for 3 weeks is considered an injury. If you cannot recover in 7 days, you went to hard.

An old site...fav of mine by Zap..

Flex Sucks

This goes for most of the muscle mags out there. Not all. But a lot!

Incline press

Seems to me that to do this type of routine, one would have to prepare themselves before, i.e., week or two before eat more, supplement more, light or no exercise before this event. Then I would wonder what the recovery process would be. Would this be just an enormous pump or by the time you recover and would be able to continue to do your normal workouts would one lose the gain? Seems like this type of workout was meant for the pros. Just my $0.02 cents.

Peace

I got tired when I got down to there. If you notice for each 20 minute interval the reps and set number is the same for the excersizes during that time period. You do both excersizes 2 times with 12 reps.

One arm row: put one knee on bench and one hand and stabilize yourself. Grab the dumbell at about your shouldr and bring your elbow back. Try to use your back muscles more than you do your triceps would be the natural motion.
No, I'm not on steroids but thank you for asking.

LMAO! yanks I really think you should try it before you say that. I almost guarantee that your 45 minute workout isn't better than the add 2" program. That program will tear your muscle much deeper than they've ever before. I mean yea I can tear up my chest in 45 minutes too but I still heal within 3 days. Not to mention that this is about supersets with the chest and back. This will REALLY tear you up. There's an arm program like this too.

This reminds me of a Home Movies episode I watched, where the guy spent five hours every day on the pec deck. His chest was absolutely huge, and to show off to the other weight lifters he put maximum weight on for a rep. He forced so hard that his pecs exploded . He had to wear a bra after that for his huge sagging pecs.

This is old school. Not saying it is not effective, just that it is not efficient. As a shock once every 6 months or so it can be incorporated into your routine. I am more inclined to take one exercise and repeate it for 3 hours. Set after set after set. keep the rest periods between sets about 2 minutes. Pick a rep range and keep droping wt to stay in the rep range. You need to also make sure you feed yourself with quality protien after the session and get lots of sleep after wards. And do not work that muscle for a few weeks. Let it heal.

One thing I have noticed about the muscle mags is that they aways will have some product(s) that you must consume with it. Why, because who do you think owns the mags? The supplement companies. I have not bought a muscle mag in years and do not intend to. The articles are some what informative, but understand they are in buisness to push products. I have to say the pictures can be motivating thou. See, they are not a total waste. ;-}

I pesonally prefer safe, over time gains. I'm not an impatient person, so I like to take it easy and develop my muscles safely and more naturally. I would love an extra 2" on my chest, but I've got all the time in the world to get it. 5 hours seems an awful long time to work out man, it just doesn't seem healthly. Just my 2 cents.

I think I'm going to try this program this weekend. I won't be able to go to the gym next week at all due to my work schedule, so I should get plenty of rest to heal up. I feel it's good to really push yourself with something extreme every once in a while. When I run, I usually run about 2-3 miles. Every once in a while it's good to go do an ass kicker of a run that goes for 7 or 8 miles with a 1.5 mile hill in there somewhere. The physical gains you get are important, but the mental gains are what make the biggest difference for me. By pushing yourself to the limit, you build discipline, confidence, and willpower. By pushing yourself farther than you thought you could, you can then take that experience and make your regular workouts that much more intense. I hope that makes sense. I'll let you guys know how it goes for me.

Good luck bro and you know we're going to need details!

Chest measurements before, midway and after.

How much weight you use as opposed to how much weight you usually would use during those excersizes.

And of course the kind of supplements you used. Then an update after a month.

Still don't have the nuts to do it myself (or the time).

What about you 8Pack? How were your gains?
No, I'm not on steroids but thank you for asking.

You hit it right on the head. I'm a Marine currently stationed in Hawaii.

Well, I did it yesterday. Pretty sore today, but not the worst I've ever been. My lats are actually more sore than my chest is. We'll see how I feel tommorrow. Don't have time to go in very much detail, but here's the overall. I felt stronger in the second hour on all my lifts. Since It's been a while since I've done flyes and really worked with dumbbells, I kind of underestimated my strength at first. Upon hiting the third hour, I was noticeably weaker, and the fourth and fifth hours I wasn't even close to where I started. By the time I was done, my whole upper body ached, and my energy was gone.

I started with a chest measurement of 38". By the end of hour 3 I was at 40" and stayed there until the end. This morning I was at 39".

During the course of this ordeal, I constantly drank MuscleAde (can't remember the company that makes it) for energy. I Drank one serving of Cytosport EvoPro at the ends of hours 1,3, and 4. At the end of hour 2 and 5 I had an Instone Lean Meal Option. I also ate two Power Bars through the workout.

Overall, I'm reserving judgement on this program. Never ahd a pump like this before, and it's kind of cool. How permanent my gains are remains to be seen. It does seem a pretty inefficient use of time, but it was worth a try. I'll update in a few days. Until then, I'm out.

Stewy -- how do you feel after about a week of rest? I am currently doing a MaxOT program and considering doing this during this week because I don't have another exam until Thursday. I agree with you about the mental side of it, but I dont want to do it if the physical gains aren't there. If I try it, I plan on doing it tomorrow (my usual chest day) and then skipping chest next week. I don't have any other supplements, so I would probably just drink protien powder a few times -- can anyone reccomend any foods that will give the supplements needed? Thanks,

After a week of rest I felt great. It's now about three weeks later, and I have a 40" chest. How much of these gains were from this program and how much from the training that followed, I don't know. My chest is at 39 3/4" right now.
As far as supplements go, I ingested protein shakes and Powerbars throughout.
I'd actually go harder on all the lifts and then stop at the three hour mark. After that I got really tired and my pumps started to go down, probably because of the lighter weights, fewer reps, i could do.
If you decide to do it, good luck.
