Abs question - Friday, May 19, 2006 10:45 AM
A bodybuilder at the Sportsplex told me that he works his abs every day, but ive heard that you shouldnt work them more than twice a week. He's got perfect abs. whats the deal? evey day or 2-3 times a week?

Don't follow the routines of other people just because they worked for them- What that guy does might not work for you.
Think about it- Your abs are a muscle, and should be worked like any other. What makes them any different? All the myths surrounding them, and the fact that it's the area our bodies tend to store fat in. You don't get perfect abs by doing tons of situps to burn the fat from that area, you get them by working the abs to develop the actual muscle, and then lowering your bodyfat percentage through proper nutrition and exercise.
Would you work your chest every day? No- Because you know muscle takes time to build after a workout, and you don't want to interrupt the recovery process. Same thing goes for abs, they're just another muscle.

Hey RonBurgandy,

Abs are like any other muscle group. They need to recover to grow. Give them at least 24-48 hours to rest, repair and grow from your ab workouts. Always make sure to mix up your ab training.

Here are some great abs routines and workouts to keep your training new and exciting:

Best of luck!
