A Career - Thursday, February 07, 2008 11:05 PM ( #1 )
Hey Dan.

The end of this semester will be the end of my second year in college with my third year (the year you start really focusing in on a major) is soon approaching.  Since losing so much weight and becoming incredibly involved in nutrition (I eat very strictly now), exercise (I lift/workout 6 days a week), and supplements (I work at Vitamin Shoppe and enjoy it a lot), I have really come to believe the major I should choose should be something along the lines of kinesiology.

I feel if I get a job in this area I will sincerely love what I do, and that is very important to me.  I looked up the kinds of jobs available to Kinesiology majors online to find a list with such occupations as coach and school nurse.  I think Kinesiology is my major, but I am a smart kid with good grades who wants a job that can pay the bills.  Got any advice?

Thanks in advance

There are a few nutrition career tracks.
Clinical nutrition (RD) and Sport nutrition being the main splits

Take a look at this presentation: (copy it and paste in browswer...add the http :// www)
sportsnutritionsociety.org/site/ppt_download.php?filename=Kreider R.pdf

You can skim the ISSN website (not a very complex site) as this is one organization that deals with nutrition for sport in all its applications
http://www.sportsnutritionsociety.org

ADA has sport or normal programs and are the head of the beast..look at their career page for some tools also. (complex site)
http://www.eatright.org

This is the ADAs more sport and wellness oriented arm
http://www.scandpg.org/

Just a note...you should get some idea of what you want to do with this when you start, but after the first core classes are done you might do some interning or such and see what really excites you.  Then you can really focus your studies.

Thanks a lot Dan.  I will check the sites out and try to see what really tickles my fancy.
