Hey, I'm new to these forums, looked everywhere and now I guess it's time to try a forum... Well, I started lifting about a year and a half ago, I was 5' 3'' or so, and only 88 lbs. I started lifting with the old bar and weights I had downstairs, and after trying to eat more (for some reason I just don't like to eat, which really makes it hard.) Now I'm up to 99 lbs, and about 5' 5''. I'm almost 18 too. According to these chart things I should be about 15~20 lbs heavier, so my goal is to be about 117 at least. So wow, freakishly small, eh? Both my parents are small, and my dad likes to press into me that i'll never be big, always skinny and small. So naturally I'm trying harder, drinking 1~2 whey protein shakes every day (vanilla flavored, yuck) and taking creatine pills. I work out until my muscles ache, then rest for like a day or more, until i'm no longer sore to give my body proper recovery time. As for eating... well I try, and it seems the only thing that made me gain weight fast was fastfood. I don't really have a problem with that since I'm very lacking in body fat, but my wallet does. http://www.geocities.com/ithilsul2112/mustgetbigger.jpg theres a pretty recent pic, i've got really thin upper arms, so I'm trying to boost those. It doesn't look so bad until I stand next to someone else, I seem to just have a very small frame... (hopefully I can still grow >_< ) So any tips for gaining more weight and muscle mass? I've got like 20 lbs to gain before I can feel like I'm not 14 years old, and recently it's gotten harder and harder to gain anything, and I haven't noticed much of a difference in muscle gain.

Do you do any cardio work ? If so I'd drop it completely. You need to learn to enjoy eating. Personally I just can't stop. Sometimes I get hungry, eat something, then get even hungrier. I really can't relate to why you don't enjoy eating, but surround yourself with things you like to eat and try new things too. Don't do anything on an empty stomach. Post your workout program, including exercises and maybe we can help you with that.

....Hmmm....I swear i know you from somewhere....you from UK? Anyway, arms you have NOTHING to worry about, why? my arms looked EXACTLY like yours before i started doing weights, and my arms arent big-but not small either, No special formula or routine-just lift, dumbell curls (no momentum, no upper body cheating, simple elbow pivoting using the entire bicep to lift) barbell curls which ive been doing more lately and preacher curls (in which i usually have to use less weight than the free hand ones-but i love preacher curls they really push me) etc. If your arms do follow suit like mine, you will still continue having thin upper arms (i still do though theyve gotten bigger, and the eblow bit-you might have trouble building bulk around that area-if your arms continue being like mine lol, you might get bulk there. You gotta eat more. As to your dad-don't listen to him, true...your genes will set you back-but nothing to really be worried about, every healthy human being has potential whether genetically great or not to get big-but you obviously wont get champion big due to the genes, thats for a VERY select few(unfortunately...grrrr lol) and you dont seem to want to get that big anyway so...whatever lol. 5 rules you must follow rule1.Eat rule2.Eat rule3.Eat rule4.Lift rule5.Lift big If you abolutely cannot eat for above reasons-eat medium amounts(preferably foods with high protein carbs and fat, a very good food for all 3 of these in one is nuts)-and take loads of protein supplements to increase protein for the lack of it in food

I've got a bar and a bench at home, and only one 15 lb freeweight. On the bar I had only 12.5 lbs on each side, 25 lbs. The bar was pretty heavy (to me at least, haha), I think it was like 30 lbs. Since I started I was using that weight, and it was hard as hell at first, I subsituted more reps rather than more weight, the only extra weights I have are 2 10s, which is a big jump to me. I'd do like 3 sets of 10 bench press, 2 sets of 10 bicep curls, 1 set of 10 deadlift, 5 squats (I just recently started that, so a low number to start), 2 sets of 20 shoulder shrugs, then I'd do wrist curls (not sure of the actual name) to boost the forearms a bit. Then I'd do some stuff with the free weight, like working my shoulder by holding it at my side and raising it... forgot the name. I'd throw in some situps and other ab workout stuff when I felt like it, since my abs show up naturally. I'll be taking weightlifting in school this coming year too, hopefully that'll help. Just yesterday I added on the 20 lbs to the bar, so now everything is twice as hard, I can't even do one bicep curl without cheating; but thats how it was when I first started, so I'll either get used to it or go back to less weight. My muscles don't really start to hurt, I think it's just because I need more body mass... *shrug* Also, I'm not from England ^^; Edit: Oh, and I'm considering protein bars to help get my protein requirements in, and clue how much protein I should be intaking per day?

remember this if you are bench pressing. If you can do over 10 you need to add weight. you wanna put enough weight on it to make that 10th one really hard. You can take some weight off when you do curls. Buy protein shakes instead of bars and make some chocolate milk you breakfast with the shake and one b4 or after your work out. (just cause powder is easy to absorb and a bunchg of bars cost a lot) and one shake at night. PROTEIN REQUIREMENT 1 gram to 1.5 grams for every 1 pound of body weight. Only do arms every other day at most cause if you do them 3 to 4 days a week they will grow faster and get bigger than if you did it 7 days a weak because it gives your muscles time to rebuild, so on your off day work on abs and legs. I hope this helps you start but when you really get into bodybuilding you might wanna change this up. protein is key when gaining muscle weight though. read more in the teen bodybuilding section to see what I am talking about. AND NO MORE CARDIO Say HELL NAH to running

Thanks much, Dookie (that from the Green Day album? Lol). I just bought some 25 lb freeweights to play around with, and I think I'll try chocolate protein shakes, the vanilla is nasty. I also bought a box of snickers protein bars, so theres an easy 20g from that. Thanks for the protein requirement info, this'll make it much easier to plan a proper diet. And cardios suck ass, I never touch them. Something that might suck later this year is my weightlifting class, according to my brother who took it, they have you run and lift 5 days a week... lifting 5 days straight can't be good for muscle growth, so i can't understand why they do that.

lol hell yea green day rocks. Yea I eat the snickers bars with a glass of milk b4 i go to bed. Dont try to take in more than 30 grams of protein in one sitting though or your body will just pass the rest as waste. im like you and hate eating but we gotta just stuff our face. and drink milk by god it has 8 grams of protein per cup. Good luck with your training!

If you work 5 different muscle groups, 5 day straight doesn't matter so much. LAso make sure your eating alot but make sure that it is clean foods. The junk foods, not so much. Remember your body hates to use fa, it's inefficient and the 2nd to last resort (the last is actually running your body by burning muscle). Much more potent energy and source of important nutrents are clean, healthy foods. Also I'm really small and a hard-gainer too. (and have inadequate equipment at home). School weightlifting helped me it will probably help you. (of course you mentioned not wanting to look like a 14 year old and I just turned 15 2 weeks ago, so whoops sorry abour that).

Join the gym is a good advice, seeing other people doing it helped me out a lot i was 85 pounds when i first started a year and a half ago, now im 17 like you dont let it get to you when people say that you cant get any bigger because of genetics or something, i was like you and now people thinks im on steroids because i got so big. And creatine should help you gain some size

Hmm, muscle gain is doing alright, but can anyone reccomend good weight gainer pills? Unfortunately all those protein bars made me break out like mad... so no more of those for a while >.<;

I would say join a gym, and also eat. When i saw you didnt like eating, i went to the fridge and ate. lol. I dont really know if weight gainer pills work but might i suggest weight gainer powder. O yea if you protein bar was chocolate, thats probably why it made you break out. Back to the weight gainer, it has tons and protein and calories, just what you need, theers the website.http://www.cytosport.com/products/cytogainer.html I also think that you ask around in thenutrition forum for some dieting advice, because even though you should eat ALOT you need to be eating healthy food, not mcdonalds and all the other fast food sh*t. Alot of protein.

hmm, i'll look into that powder. Any suggestions on flavors that don't taste... weird? I know my vanilla protein shakes are nasty, didn't think they'd be so bad.

YOUR IN LUCK!!! i think that cytosport, the brand that makes cytogainer has the best tasting protein on the planet. That is no lie, try the chocolate malt, personally my favorite, with milk and pb its the best in the world.

Really start packing on the carbs and cals ithilsu. I'd say take in about 2000-2200 cals a day. I calculated that should take about 100-110g of protein a day. Try and eat meals every few hours too, i know you don't like eating much and i guess you have a slow metabolism and dont get hungry much??
