lol thanks Jane you are too nice. Don't get me wrong though, I probably pull sumo just as much, if not more, than conventional. It really hammers my hips and glutes in a way that conventional doesn't. I pull about the same amount of weight with each variation, maybe slightly more with conventional. Now I just need Craigslist to help me out so I can get a few hundred more pounds of plates!

I thought SL stood for Single Leg and, I thought what the f***!! when I saw 325lbs x12. Funny enough, though, I didnt doubt it as the vid was loading up. Still very impressive with two legs!

LMAO, sounds like itd be hard to balance edit- Alright my curiosity got the best of me. I managed to do one rep with 225 on one leg lol. It is A LOT harder than I thought, balance being the limiting factor here.

Spenny That's funny! And it has to be a DBB record. Haha. For now at least. I looked on youtube and didn't see anything heavier than a 30lb dumbell or so.

You should submit it to Guinness World Records before someone like Misha Koklyaev googles this.

Nice work...325 x 12 is nothing to sniff at ; ) Although, you are making me question either your form or my own... My SLDL's don't look like that... not that they are much different, but enough to make me ponder..

I looked again, basically... My shoulders are more retracted, I have always been taught to not deload SLDL (regular deads of course deload every rep every set), my knees are a bit softer (but legs still straight), and I go as low as I can feel a really deep stretch, whlie keeping the natural "standing upright", arch in my back. I seemed to me that your lower back rounds at the bottom, so that you can reach the ground to deload and touch... But, I'm no expert , that is just what I saw...

You described perfect form for a bodybuilding application of a straight leg dead lift. Not deloading would keep tension in the hammies which most bodybuilders are looking for. I however use it as a means to strengthen my hammies and lower back in the initial pull of the lift to help strengthen my conventional dead lift. Most SLDL's incorporate a somewhat rounded back. I think what you are doing is more often described as a romanian dead lift.

It's funny how the longer you do things the more the more you learn the more you forget... Yeah your correct, I do Romanians, at some point I knew there was a distinction between the two, but that had become quite muddled in my mind. Since I can't back squat, I choose exercises that reinforce the chest up shoulders back, posture. Also, I am always looking for increased flexibility, so the stronger hammy stretch (not necessarily the "body builder tension"), is also very important to me. Also, I use Romanians as an auxiliary for power cleans, not for conventional deads... So yeah, we are doing different things for different reasons... Although the only rounded back exercises that I have heard of are like... round back training with stones... but that strong man shyte, and well you do strong man stuff.. so I guess quite appropriate.

I definitely never round my back when I do SLDLs. I have heard of round back training, but I am afraid to try any of it ... too scared of back injury

NBSFighter I definitely never round my back when I do SLDLs. I have heard of round back training, but I am afraid to try any of it ... too scared of back injury When I first started pulling conventional I got up to 405ish pretty quick and then ****ed up my lower back one day from letting the weight round my back out. Therein lies the difference though, letting the weight round you out is asking for an injury. However, starting with a somewhat rounded back (lower back included), given that you can keep it tight throughout the whole movement, is perfectly safe. If I could get a side view you'd see my back somewhat rounded but it stays that way throughout the whole lift (until lockout obviously). SLDL, GM's, stone loading, tire flips are just a few exercises that commonly use a rounded back, especially the last two strongman exercises like Hardway was explaining.

I can definitely see its practical uses, especially for stone lifting, but seeing as how I don't plan on training for any competitive weightlifting, I will leave those exercises to the professionals

Check out the first SLDL video you get on youtube. That chick [she's hawt! *drools* ] does the thing quite different. In fact, her back is strainght but too much to the front but her butt is pulled back to the max and she is on her toes all the time. :S I do see that her hammy's are great and are getting nicely hammered and the form seems to be good. But it is a weird form. Not like the regular SLDL that everyone does.

Yea, when you pull your butt back or "reach" with your butt it is a romanian dead. They are all stiff legs to me though. The variations are so similar that they shouldn't be variations.
