3 day split (6x a week), yay or nay? - Tuesday, November 25, 2008 7:51 AM ( #1 )
Hi guys,

So it is time to device a new routine and was wondering if the following 6 day split is not overkill.

Day 1: Chest and Tri's
Day 2: Back and Bi's
Day3: Legs and Shoulders
Day 4: Chest and Tri's
Day 5: Back and Bi's
Day 6: Legs and Shoulders

I know that when you train chest you indirectly work your anterior delts and when you work delts, you indirectly work the tri's. So would having shoulders on a separate day from tri's lead to overtraining? Is this a good routine?

Thanks for your help!

If you're a beginner i would suggest a full body 3-day split

You're right Connelly, 3 day split! Thanks for noticing.

I started doing 5x5 but was taking a bit longer than I wanted. I just started the routine this week btw. I'll still be lifting heavy (6-8 reps) I've found that heavy weights/low reps give me the best results overall.

Training for two years doesn't make you more qualified for a more advanced bodybuilding routine.

I have been training for 3 years and I'm still working on getting a good base although I'll throw in a split every now and then.

What are your lifts?  Stat's...

I'd probably recommend you to a full body split, just to provide yourself with a good base.  Eat big and lift heavy until you feel you are ready to train like a bodybuilder.

I'm not looking to get as big as a bodybuilder...I never said I was qualified to train like one, just said that I am not a beginner to working out.

Honestly a 5x5 routine shouldn't take to long what lifts were you doing? Just get the main compound lifts in there 5x5's are to work on getting your compound lifts better while increasing size in your whole body. Also btw sorry didn't see this until now. Goodluck with whatever you choose though you seem like you have the basic bodybuilding knowledge that most people that lift acually don't know.
