3 day full body HIT routine--thoughts?

What do you guys think of this routine? It is a 3 day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) full body routine. The lower body is worked in the 8 to 12 rep range while the upper body is worked in the 6 to 10 rep range. I use a 3-3 cadence (3 seconds up, 3 seconds down) and do just 1 set per exercise. Thigh Extension Thigh curl Calf raise Squat DB Pullover Bench Press Lat Pull down Overhead BB Press Seated Cable Row Dip Triceps push down Standing DB Laterals Deadlift BB Shrug Forearm curls Abdominals As I say, 3 days a week, 1 set per exercise. Rep ranges are above. Thoughts? Mike

Your much better off doing something other then that... Not too mention the enormous amount of isolations your doing... but then I looked up HIT training to get a better understanding of it and found this... "Everything of any value related to exercise can be stated in less thana thousand words, can, in fact, be fairly well covered in only a fewwords, as follows: Train hard, Train briefly, Train infrequently, andalways remember that your final results will primarily be a consequenceof genetics" -Arthur Jones I stopped reading when I saw that name. You would be much better off doing an HST type routine with compounds, and maybe 1-2 isolations.

Interesting comments because you're pointing me towards HST and the sample routine on the HST site has tons of isolation movements in it (shrugs, DB curls, tri push down, lateral raise, etc.) but the difference is the extra volume. I can tell you that many natural body builders have used the routine I posted to get big and cut up. I'm just curious as to the order of exercises (the opinion of those reading) and then why you are recommending HST when it seems that HST is very similar to what I posted. Thoughts?

I know the sample routine is laced with isolations, however I recommended HST with compounds. HST is just principles you apply to your routine and workout. That sample routine is crap. My concern is not necissarily with your HIT training, all though I dont particularly like Mr. Jones and his nautilus equipment. Doing one set really limits yourself, when you should be sticking to compounds and very little isolation work. All the isolations is the problem, but like I said you limit yourself greatly by only doing one set, that only add's too the problem. HST seems like something you may like given you are wanting to try this, and with HST you can make much better use of your time in the gym, by sticking to the basic compound movements. That makes sense. The HIT routine I list isn't about machines. It is more about adaptation and the repetition in road principle. Do you have any good sample HST routines?

the "sample routine" you speak of on the HST website is NOT a sample routine. It simply lists each major muscle groups and the different types of exercises you can do to work them. Some are compound lifts, some are isolations. There's definately NO NEED to do all of the exercises on their website. It's up to you to pick and choose what you would like to add into a routine for yourself
