1-Ton Hooks

Well... after trying to grab the 110 lb dumbbells for shrugs today and being disappointed yet again by my ability to hold onto the large grips, I finally decided to try some 1-Ton Hooks out. I've got straps but they just don't seem to work well with dumbbells. I do not use straps on pull-downs or rows. Just barbell and dumbbell shrugs. Those I feel I can really up the weight to the point where I cannot hold onto the weight. And that does an injustice to my traps which are the primary focus. So with that said, I placed my order. I'll come back to this post to tell you guys how it works out. 1-Ton Hooks [image]local://upfiles/2/5615C68A662C4902810FA954E8544AD0.jpg[/image]

Those look like they are going to scratch your thighs. Do they have sharp corners?

Still waiting.... they shipped from Canada. So it does take longer then 3 days. But I did deadlifts last night at 275 lbs with ease. I can do 309 lbs before my grip becomes an issue. I would venture to guess if I start my deads from the floor, nice and tight, I'll be breaking some personal bests. We shall see. Stay tuned.

Interesting. I tend not to be able to hold my self up on the bar when doing my pull ups. after 8 my grip weakens and i tend tho throw my body into it to help my self up. I love doing shrugs with dumbells... I only have tried wrist wraps and i love them. i try not to use them as much as possible becuase when you do not use t hen it helps strenghten your forearms and wrists. for me anything over 315 i use wrist wraps.. i did 500lbs(yes i know it looks funny on the bar) for shrugs yesterday and the wrist wraps actually left marks on my wrists... i wonder if that new thing would be better.... you got to let us know how it works out

Man these things look awesome. Can't wait to hear how they work out for you mda, cause I have that same problem. My traps can handle the weight but not my grip. Especially with the 110's at my gym. They're the ones coated with rubber so they are like 20"s long. What a pain in the butt carting those things around.

I received them. They look durable as hell with think but flexible purple neoprene. The hooks are coated, solid steel. Back day is today and I fully plan on messing around with them. Expect some kind of pre-post later on my thoughts on these things.

1-Ton Hook Review: Heck...I wanted these to be the solution to my grip problem... But they didn't work out that way at all. My strong hunch is... That it might work for somebody else but the shape of my hands, and the way it feels, just wasn't comfortable to me. I tried just picking up the 80 lbs for shrugs and it felt completely off. With the large hook right there, there's no way you can grip the weight. You basically have to let it hang on the hook. Just think about it... And 80 lb weight hanging from your arm. I didn't like the feeling. I tried pull-ups and felt no difference. I tried to put the 110 lb in them for shrugs but that felt like I was going to drop the weight. The corners of these things are well done. There's a layer of soft, textured plastic around them. So they won't scratch you if you do shrugs with the bar. The neoprene is comfortable. The Velcro closures are top-notch. The hook itself isn't bending. It's tough as steel. I could go on and on... But the bottom line is that it didn't work out for me as I expected. I checked the website for any videos or further instructions but found none. Adjusting the length was not an issue nor was the width. That was simple. But having to cup my hand around a large hook and never get a grip around the handle was just too odd for me. Not my style. P.S. I think I'll get in contact with the support e-mail on the website and find out if there's something I did wrong.

It just felt like there was too much "stuff" between my hand and the bar before I even got there. The feeling just didn't leave me comfortable. However, do not despair. Today, I saw a very cool, smaller strap in a European loop that I want to try.

I myself have a pair and indeed it is a bit strange but you can flip the hook around so your hand and the hook make a ring it's explained here http://www.1tonhooks.com/help.htm i find it safer this way, so it's just to say it's a good product just try it the otherway round ! That way i feel safer and can push myself to the max cause i'm sure it won't slip out! Like this
