Well, Im 17 years old, Im in the Army reserves, and I have already been through Basic, but not my AIT. I know I am getting back out of shape, and it makes me mad. I have always been significently underwieght, and it isnt because I dont eat. Trust me, I eat alot. I also eat a penut butter sandwitch or two everyday. I want to get some bulk on, but I dont really know how short of doing 50 push ups, turning onto my back, resting, and doing 50 more. There has to be a way to bulk up better/faster. My other thing is running. I am soo slow at running. Its cold here, so its really hard to convince myself to go out and run, is there something I can do at home to make running easier (Less painful) and to mabey quicken me up a bit? I know after the two mile runs it was all I could do to stay standing! I dont have accsess to a bench press, a treadmill, nothing. What are my good options?

If you have the available funds.. I would suggest going to a Wallmart and purchasing a $139.00 bench press that has a wide enough adjustable stand that will allow you do do squats and a $150.00 set of 300lbs olympic weights and bar. That's really all you need to get started. I would focus primarily on compund lifts.. Squats Deads Flat Bench BB Rows OH Presses. those 5 exercises will certainly get you going in the right direction. Regarding your diet.. All I can say is you need to eat massive amounts of food.. Don't go overboard with bad fats but certainly keep eating the good fats.. peanut butter, nuts, olive oil, lean white meat etc.. plenty of fruits and veggies along with complex carbs... Do a search for a calorie caluclator and find out what your daily caloric needs are to maintain and then add 300-500 extra cals.. that should put you gaining around 1lbs or so weekly... keep in mind that only doing pushups and exercises that don't allow the use of weights will not gain mass.. Not saying it's not good to do them but you need to either invest in some weights and a bench or join a gym.. Goodluck quote:

Your story is not an unfamiliar one here. We've got a number of members who started out skinny like you. Every one of them will tell you that the key is to eat eat eat. You may think you're eating a lot right now, but you need to eat more. If you want to gain weight, you may also want to consider reducing the amount of cardio (running) you do. If improving your running is more important to you, then you can continue to focus on that, but you probably will have a lot of difficulty gaining mass. As smoundzou said, push-ups are not going to be much help; you need weights. Consider a gym membership, or getting a set of weights as he suggested. You might be able to go a little cheaper by getting a set of dumbbells and a cheap flat bench, but you'll probably want more in the future.

I would first like to solute you for your efforts to keep our country a safe, free, and fun place to live - Next I would like to tell you, no weight lifting access is something that hurts. However- You can still do 1 thing, and that's diet. Diet is the most important thing, and if your eating big you can still get big. I would have a look on some cheap weights, and a bench with a squat rack with a barbell on ebay. If that didn't work I'd try to get some type of membership or some kind of access.
