1 in 30,000 eggs contain Salmonella
-
Sunday, August 03, 2008 8:11 PM
I just started eating raw eggs in my shakes and I am debating on whether it is worth it due to the food born illness risks. I was wondering what your guys opinion is on this? Also I was reading that mixing eggs with alcohol will kill Salmonella and was thinking of mixing my eggs first in a very small amount of vodka or something before putting them into the shake.

I know its not a big risk, but I would avoid the raw eggs. Stick with the protein powder. Thats what I think.

It is dumb for 3 reasons. 1) Chance of getting salmonella. 2) Your body only gets about half of the nutrients out of a raw egg. 3) It is nasty. If you want to do raw eggs then get pasturized egg whites in the carton.

4 good reasons 1) The chances are VERY small of getting salmonella 2) There are ways to check an egg for salmonella if you simply google it (i dont have the link on hand but it was floating around here a little while ago) 3) its cheaper then most powders 4) its a HELL of alot easier to drink 4+ eggs then it is to eat them cooked

the protein in raw eggs are only 51% bio-available, cooked eggs are 90+% bio-available. Better double up on them eggs boys.

(My math may be wrong) 12 egg = $3 = 72g protein, 36g uncooked = 12g/$1 5 pounds of whey protein = $40 = 2,000g protein = 50g/$1 Whey is much cheaper protein/money wize but my mom pays for eggs :D

If you can only eat 2 eggs cooked I bet you have a hard time on a bulking diet, or do eggs just not do it for you? Try cooking them a different way. I really don't like scrambled eggs unless they are in a burrito or an omlette. I love hard boiled eggs and poached eggs. Or keep eating em raw, rocky style.

I can eat a lot. It is the eggs. They are just funky after the first 2 when you are tired of eating them. I like 1 sunny side up with toast, or one in my bagel any more and my body just doesn't understand why. I'll look for the pasteurized

I blend up an egg with chocholate protein powder... sometimes i'll throw in some peanut butter... it basically tastes like cake batter, thus making it f-ing amazing.

How about you...y'know...cook it. I dont see why people have this fascination with eating stuff raw to "get more nutrients" The amount lost is neglible if any, and having the benefits (tiny) of raw egg will be majorly outweighed by VODKA, which will inhibit muscle growth.

dont put it in a shake then, eat the egg, drink the shake, and off one goes to merry town and does ones thing. Also i didnt realise this was a shake question. If youre using a blender to make said shake, this will cook the egg, or so i have heard, dont quote me or sue me if this doesnt work.

I don't see what the hell is wrong with you people. I could down a whole carton of scrambled eggs no problem. I love them. Hard boiled eggs are the only kind I have trouble with after about 4.
